DARWINIAN CARGO SAILOR
Once upon a time, I crossed the pathway of a cargo sailor. The senior-age man spent his life transporting cargo for merchants. The man holds more than one citizenship. This job in marginality of society on shore led him to visit ports around the globe and deal with people from various ethnicities and religions.
I asked: «Why choose the transportation of goods on vessel as a career?»
He responded: «I grew up in the maritime world but was not committed enough to become a navigator or scientist who can swear an oath. Becoming a cargo sailor enabled me to launch a career on sea while embracing the discovery of multiculturalism around the globe.»
I asked: «Can you name misconceptions about your career?»
He responded: «I think some branches in the maritime world remain stigmatized by the general population. It does not offer the prestige as people working in astrophysics probably because the maritime world has been around as long as humankind while the discovery of space is relatively new. First, most people are not mentally and physically designed to live on sea. Second, I have often heard nasty comments about people in my occupation: alien, beggars, illiterate, savage, sexually demonized, etc…People would be surprised how many polyglot educated well-mannered individuals with spatial dimensions make a career in waters. We are often isolated from the world for long periods and rarely see our families on shore.»
I asked: «Is it mystical to live in 7 Seas?»
He responded: «Yes, but I stress that it is designed for a minority. In other words, not everybody on sea will age well or evolve in many ways while being isolated from the world. Our job has nothing to do with cruise ships nor fancy schmancy yachts of the elite. We also dislike when troops on sea in other domains scrutinize us. We mind our business and expect others to do the same.»
I asked: «Are religions denigrated?»
He responded: «Yes! Religions have been around for a couple of thousand years. All religions have been vilified at some point in time throughout history. Whether you believe in God, atheist, praises in spirituality or not, you are entitled to your opinion. The problem I see is that religions tend to be scuffed when people interpret religions their own way and act in the name of God. I personally have no problem with people believing in religions and think the majority know to use sound judgment as well as not cross the line in a multicultural gathering. On sea, I have never witnessed an altercation between men from various religious groups who withdraw at break time to pray.»
I asked: «How about alcohol on sea?»
He responded: «Just like many occupations on shore, alcohol is prohibited during working hours. Management is entitled to search cabins for alcohol and substance use. As a manager of a vessel, I have had issues with people who have disobeyed and were eventually laid off.»
I asked: «Have you noticed a change of tone in global politics?»
He responded: «Yes! I think some major players are undergoing an identity crisis with stagnating economy and demographic changes. Policymakers will probably close doors to some opportunities attempting to protect their nation. It is normal for governments to try different recipes.»
I asked: «What is your input about the current turmoil in the Arabian Peninsula?»
He responded: «I will summarize my observations in 7 points for 7 Seas: 1) On a managerial basis: Both countries in conflict need new heads to steer the helm, 2) On a longevity basis: The new country must become self-sufficient and detach itself from the North-American liaison. It is smarter to immerse with enemies locally and find a common-ground. The people displaced from their land need a future to embrace the new country. 3) On a geographical basis: The new country will never gain international credibility by mimicking the nuke scheme performed in the past by their North-American liaison. Also, the new country has no experience in battlefield internationally so their hatred is entirely focalized around their land. Bleeding the North-South-East-West Compass will eventually denude them and make them vulnerable to new world dominance. People understand the concept of bomb blasts: Dropping a baseball versus a piano from a high-rise building will not lead to the same debris. , 4) On an economical basis: Both countries cannot strive while killing each other. Both countries need basic necessities and a nation with little disparity, 5) On a tongue basis: The new country's opening dramatic shot to debut the war with a bible verse sounded outdated and wack. The Pope has a way to make narratives sound cool but not the rest of the world. I grew up around Christianity and had to ask a guy who visited the Vatican what the verse meant! It sounded like a goat babbling from the era of BC. It does not help the cause of a minority who has been in exile for centuries to sound like a Shakespeare verse where a party in power binds money for a pound of living flesh! Besides, times have changed and it is not cool when policymakers meddle religions to conflicts, 6) On a power basis: The new country could not expect nations settled in the region for centuries to roll the red carpet! Besides, the daily schemes such as administrative detention without possibility of trial, burning olive trees and segregation catalyze hatred which in return leads to assaults. The new country has to take responsibility for what their people are doing wrong too. I see a mental blockage with the iron walls. The only way to take the enemy by surprise is to demonstrate mental control which will never happen with iron walls. I would push for a multicultural setting and meddle with enemies to survive for centuries, 7) On a global image basis: How the world perceives the problem is important. In fact, both countries need to accept constructive critique from the international community. I think it is primordial to find permanent peace for the region.»
I asked: «Are you concerned about the North-American liaison?»
He responded: «Yes! I do not think a country can pump up debt indefinitely, dispatch a 1000 brigades all over the globe and puff up their chest while internal problems pile up. I think the superhero mask will eventually fall off before a revolution occurs inside the country. One thing is sure, the saturation of an empire scatters petals for new world dominance.»
I asked: «Any scoop from your Back to the Future Compass?»
He responded: «Yes! The wind will lift a red flag as a new global dominance. Afterwards, many generations later, there will be emergence of white gold which will incite some nations to immerse their people in new inhabited land. To do so, there will be new genetic mutations and back to the Darwinian theory of the survival of the fittest. This reiterates the importance of preserving lots of genetic diversity rather than eradicating multiculturalism.»
I responded: «Thank you for a wonderful lesson in Darwinian Cargo Sailor!»
